Beading for the Orixás
Register: Beading_the_Orixas
A hands-on educational beading workshop with Tiago Almeida exploring the ways African diasporic knowledge has traveled throughout the regions now known as the Americas. As an initiate of Candomblé, Almeida’s knowledge is situated within the communities of Bahia, Brazil, and together participants will explore how these traditions, histories, and forms of knowledge appear across communities and even continents. Participants will learn about the colors, patterns, and strands of beads associated with different orixás, how these beads are worn, and their cultural significance.
All materials provided. Free participation is available upon request by emailing: info@icasantafe.org. Workshops are limited to 15 participants.
